Canadian Soldiers in Normandy
I'm after some help please. I am just finishing a detailed, fully illustrated history of British cloth badges 1939-1967 entitled Badges on Battledress. This includes a chapter on the campaign in North West Europe after D Day.
As the Canadian Army made a major contribution to the campaign the chapter includes details of the Canadian insignia of that period by which time it was largely printed. I need to find about four pictures from that period which show the cloth insignia worn, preferably studio portraits like those attached and hopefully copyright free. If anyone has any pictures they would be willing to share please PM me. All contributors will be offered a copy of my book at a reduced price. Jon |

Thomas,
Thank you. I've found some nice British photos there but no Canadian ones. Jon |

No offers? Would not have thought Canadian soldiers were that camera shy?

Perhaps the archives of the photographers plying their trade in the areas where there was a concentration of Canadians did not survive. But there must be lots of studio portraits of Canadian soldiers in BD with Canadian collectors? Mike

Diffiucult request. I have had challenges getting images for my book as well. Not sure if it is an issue of images not existing, or not being readily available.

Whatever the reason few pictures seem to have surfaced. But I'll keep looking.

Try the people behind the Canadian Memorial at Worthing:
https://www.facebook.com/CanadianMemorialWorthing Some of the Bitish born children of WW2 Canadian servicemen may have posted photos of their fathers, or might send you them if requeted: http://www.canadianrootsuk.org/index.html

I just had a quick look, some photos are there. It's just a question of finding ones with the right flashes:

Hi Mike, your image is of a 48th Highlander. They served in Italy from 1943 until March 1945. Then 1 Cdn Corps was moved to NW Europe and participated in the last campaigns of the war.
