Hello Keith,
Was that the hammer price on the Middlesex Regt [public works pioneer battalion] ? £330.00 from the auction on the 25th, how do you view the prices paid ? Regards Gerard |

Mike H, the EY one was the larger cap size rather than beret.
If anyone does have one they want to part with, I'm interested! Michael |

It appears the Cyclist badges have rocketed? The Highland Cyclists in particular! Even though it seems to have belonged to Mr King the all Gm example went for £550 (not including the fees) seems a heck of a lot for a badge that should not exist?

In response to post 11
Extract of Highland Cyclist thread debate (since it is raised here too) It is very interesting to read the 'debate' in this thread - but it should be noted that The Highland Cyclist Battalion description in Kipling and King actually includes the following words - Sergeants: in White Metal and Gilding Metal. Rank and File in White Metal (Fig 1864) ... I would interpret this as meaning the badge in question is a Sergeants' variant not an economy issue. Had it been an economy issue surely it would be noted for all ranks. I take the point that Hugh, like the rest of us, had ongoing research and with such a vast collection included some 'unproven' items. However, the description (above) appears quite specific. This is not my area of expertise but I do wonder if the reference to 'economy' issue in this thread is misplaced. Yes I also know Hugh had some spurious badges - he was quite open about this when we were discussing some 'Special Service Forces: Second World War' items, illustrated in Vol 2. Nevertheless, his collection remains extraordinary in terms of scope and depth. Regards Mike |

Andy has corrected me regarding the above posting - my misinterpretation - Sgts basically in Bimetal, not two separate badges. I should have realised this following other Scottish regimental practice. Mike

Congratulations to all those who won any Agonised Ally badges in the sale. Commiserations to those bidders who didn't get what they wanted.
Missed that Essex Yeo; Looked at it in the catalogue and didn't even notice it was a large size. http://www.mycommissionbid.com/bid/viewitem.php?id=87 Next time! |
