11th/12th Battn - Blackboy Hill
I have a photograph of the men of the 11th/12th Battalion taken in October 1915 at Blackboy Hill in WA, just prior to their 5th Oct departure. There are 54 men in the photo. Would this be a full battalion?
All soldiers are identified. I have a number of other photographs, if these are also of interest. I didn't want to put them up if not. Cheers Christine |

A full battalion would be 800-1000 men.
These men were part of the 11th reinforcements for the 12th Battalion. The rest of the battalion would have been at Gallipoli in October, 1915. More info about them here: https://www.aif.adfa.edu.au/showUnit...de=INF12REIN11 Mick

Thanks for the clarification, Mick.
Also thanks for the AIF link. Egbert Wills was my husband's grandfather. It was good to look up some of his mates ("Jack" Hopkins and Alf Wells) and see that they also made it back to Oz. Cheers |
