It was a variant cap badge worn by, but not unique to 1st RUR which was of course the Airborne battalion during WW2

It's not rare, more scarce

The two I have are marked sterling. I have never seen a HMS one.

I think a genuine one is probably out of my price range then. I would love one though as the RUR are my Grandfather's old Regiment.

dont forget this has been discussed before on here.the badge was only for officers and wo,s and not sure it was even issued to all but may be mistaken

Absolutely - that's the point I was making! If the standard badge was good enough for an awards presentation by the Army Group Commander, it should be good enough for anybody!
