Default BSAP gilt title

I was very pleased to get this gilt BSAP title recently. I think that it was worn as a slouch hat badge. It is fairly large ( about 65mm wide and 30mm high) and has square lugs. have had no luck finding it in any of the usual reference works. Can anyone help with dating it ?
Many thanks
Mike

Default BSAP Badge

Radford, at Serial 13 on Page 14 illustrates and describes a badge of this type as - " BSAP Sheet Brass slouch hat badge.Boer War period.Yours appears an up-market version of this.

I saw that badge that you mentioned as illustrated in Radford's book. It is also in Owen as O3370, as you say Slouch Hat, Boer War. The badge as shown is a brass cut-out. The badge that I have is die cast and gilded, although the lettering looks very similar. My question is how a well made and pretty badge like this could have 'slipped between the cracks "and is not mentioned or shown in any of the reference works ?
Thanks for your interest and assistance.
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike, I found this in "The Regiment" by Richard Hamley. This is just post Boer War. There is also mention of the Native police wearing "Native Police buttons and the regimental title in place of a badge". Maybe this is what it is? Regards Andrew

Well spotted. That is exactly what it is - the cypher from a pouch plate mentioned in Police General Order No. 393 of 2nd October 1903.
I have a copy of Hamley's book and this is the first time I have had cause to really look at it.
Many thanks
Mike

The badge you have is part of a two piece pouch belt badge for the BSAP as worn per regulations dated 1907. have attached an image of the one I have in the collection for interest.

Now to find all the other bits !
The title has squared off lugs. Can you show a pic of the reverse ?
