Lancashire Fusiliers patch question
Picked this one up a while back, being sold as 50's sleeve patch and the construction makes that seem likely, though not seen them as a sleeve patch as it is very similar to the pagri flash.
It would be good to clarify what exactly it is for, sleeve or pagri. Thanks in advance.

Found one here paired with a shoulder title, so sleeve patch it is. Were they worn in pairs with one on each arm?

LF
I can't speak for the Regiment as a whole but the arm badge worn by 2 LF, 11 Inf Bde, 78 Inf Div in Italy was simply the white grenade on a red rectangle. I saw the grenade/LF badge as illustrated above worn on the blue beret with primrose hackle by some LF (TA) at Millom, Cumberland in the summer of 1959.

When I did an image search on google I found a similar badge being worn as a beret badge, it is in the IWM collection and dates to the 50's. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30090649

Lancs Fus patch
I believe this was initially used as a pagri flash pre-war, and resarected in the 1950's for wear on the slouch hat. I think there was a previous thread on this subject.

Certainly makes more sense for headgear than tunic, and as a beret and/or pagri flash sounds about right.

Hi Jerry
I have seen this flash in WW2 pics worn on the slouch hat, GS and JG GS, sometimes worn with the primrose hackle Lee |

From the construction, do you (or anyone else) have an opinion on its date, as I sort of assumed that it was 50's?

Hello Jerry,
As far as i can remember the LF started to wear the cloth badge in the beret just after WW11 Gerard |

L.F. cloth cap badge
This cloth cap badge was worn from The Boer War until 1958.
You can buy them from the Museum at Bury; also the Officers red/silver version. This probably accounts for the pristine condition. Bill......(ex-LF) |

You could be right Bill, it came from a dealer but where they got it from is unknown, but at a fiver I would assume the price was OK unless you tell me they are less in the museum shop!

LF cloth badge
I attach some pictures which I hope will illustrate how the LF cloth badge was worn in the WW2 to 1958 period.
The slouch hats show it worn with and without primrose yellow hackle. The close-up without the hackle shows how the badge was heavily trimmed so as to fit the turn up of the slouch hat brim. I have one of these badges and it is 1.25 inches X 2.5 inches and backed with a khaki material. The slouch hat shown on this string above is very likely genuine but whoever put the L.F. badge on it has affixed it incorrectly (which suggests it wasn't done by a 'Chindit') The water colour of Fusilier Spinks in Egypt I did myself.
