Paul,
Our man is: 3939 Frederick Paule Seldon of the Royal Marine Light Infantry - Plymouth Division. On the SWB Roll, his service number looks like 3989, but it is in fact 3939. His service record is available HERE. PJ [Edit - Mike, you must have posted as I was typing... sorry about that.] [Edit 2 - ...agreed Mike, AND a commission from 'Ancestry'] |

I can find only two entries for a Frederick Paul (Frederick P) Seldon in the England and Wales Births, Marriages and Deaths indexes:
i) Birth - Barnstaple 1870 ii) Death - Barnstaple 1934 The death record appears to be for the same man, as his age is given as 64 years. PJ |

Searching for the badge number 40112 in the "Silver War Badge Records" on Ancestry.com brings up a Maurice Mcbain, who was apparently in the "Army Service Corps".
Surely that can't be the guy as there's a RN before the number on the badge. |

Thanks for taking the time to look that up. You've made the person that found the badge very happy....as he's now able to try and return it to the family. |

This may appear to be a little simplistic but I have often been both impressed and amazed at the speed and ease that members have been able to access records. I am used to to the vagueries of Ancestry but some members seem to access records from the National Archives when I fail completely......particularly with regard to WW2 records. What is the secret? I feel terribly naive!

I know this is a long shot but here we go...... I know that my G Grandfather was awarded the SWB and i have his badge's number somewhere. However, God only knows where the actual badge is.....Does anyone know if there is a forum/website that can match a badge number to the current owner?
