Default Scots guards KD tunic, what patches?

I wondered if anyone can tell me what formation patches this tunbic would have had. 24th grds brigade or BETFOR has been suggested and I wondered if that is correct? I can see it also had a para patch at some time. It has GS buttons and pips which I know have been added, so is it likely that it had Scots Guards examples?

Thanks for any help and opinions.

Jerry

The BETFOR sign was worn as a diamond and the sign of 24 Guards Bde was a rectangle. The stitch marks indicate a square - could you possibly measure the width and height of stitchmarks?
Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike,

it is 2 inches high and 1 and a half inches wide, so it's a rectangle, not a square.

I have read that BETFOR used both the leaping gazelle patch and the 24th ind brigade patch and I realise it did not have the gazelle patch. On the BETFOR association website they show both patches as being used, so I am just trying to use the correct designation for the patch, without saying this tunic was BETFOR, just that I was told it might have been.

BETFOR 'Order of Battle'

24th Infantry Brigade

Regiment Period in Trieste Location Remarks
1st Scots Guards May 45 - May 46 Rossetti from 24 Guards Brigade
2nd Coldstream Guards May 45 - May 46 from 24 Guards Brigade

Thanks,

Jerry

My Trieste period (worn by 1 Northants) 24 Inf Bde sign is exactly 2 in x 1.5 in.
So I imagine that would be it.

Thanks Mike for your help, can you post a picture of your example, as I am trying to replace the insignia and want to know the correct pattern for WWII or just after? Are they expensive and hard to find?

Thanks again,

Jerry

Default 24 Guards Bde

Four of my eight variations. Upper right is the 1 Northants, Trieste period sign (with Northants black flash below)

Aren't they the wrong pips? They look like the regular Order of the Bath ones worn by almost every regiment. However, the Scots Guards wear the Order of the Thistle pips and are a slightly different shape.

Hi David,

I mentioned in the first post that the pips (& buttons) had been replaced with GS pattern examples. If you know of any original SG pips (& buttons) for sale, I would like to replace them, when I can.

Regards,

Jerry
