23mm hollow domed, maker could be Firmin?

Pretty sure its a numeral "1" between the G and R.

Any thoughts welcome please.

I thought this would be a tricky one.

I can't believe its George the First

I wondered if it was 1st Foot, some Napoleonic Shako plates just have a numeral under the GR cypher?

Hi Rob,

Just thoughts, but I would imagine 'King George' did not become 'King George I' until after King George II came to the throne, just as, I presume, WWI did not get that title until after WWII.

Hi Trev

Yes you are right no one says Victoria the First do they, I just thought G1R 1714-1727 was a bit too early for this style of button.

Could it be the First Regiment of Foot Guards?
They were renamed Grenadier Guards in 1815 and have retained the monarch's cypher on their buttons.
