Default Trade Badges - RAOC Ammunition Technician

In 1960 the new titles of 'Ammunition Technical Officer' (ATO) replacing that of '‘Inspecting Ordnance Officer' (IOO) and 'Ammunition Technician' (AT) that of 'Ammunition Examiner' (AE) Ammunition Technical Officers at this time were still not permitted to wear any trade badge.

1970 Officers 'Working Dress' Badge
1970 Officers variation
1970 Officers 'Service Dress' Badge
1970 Officers Badge modified by a Warrant Officer.

The present AT badge was introduced in 1970, and it was decided that for the first time Ammunition Technical Officers were permitted to wear it.

Ammunition Technicians made sure that they had a good supply of the older large 'Flaming A' to last them, and continued to wear it. The powers that be had the good sense to agree, allowing both badges to continue. A new small "Flaming A" for Ammunition Technicians and a new smaller ‘Flaming Circle’ for Ammunition Technical Officers

Default NZ AT Badge

The RNZAOC followed the RAOC pattern and adopted the 'Flaming A' as the qualification badge for ATOs and AT's in the early 1970's.

As the badge was identical to the RAOC AT badge it was decided in 1988 to include fern fonds to give it a truly New Zealand Character.

When the RNZAOC was disestablished in 1996, use of this badge was carried over to the Royal New Zealand Army Logistic Regiment.
