Default voided collar - when was this used ?

I'm not too familiar with all the variations of the rising sun badge, but this collar turned up the other day, and it looks rather different and older that the badges that surface quite often ( even here in South Africa )
Can anyone identify when this was worn ?
Many thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
If not mistaken this is the extremely rare and sort after Boer War rising sun badge. Referred to as 1st pattern.
