Hi, posted this before, but got no reply. The lugs are the same as the usual badge, just misshapen. The quality is very good, the detail being as good as the usual badge, any ideas would be welcome, Mike

This looks like a planchet or an unfinished/trial strike of the badge. The finished version has sharp details to the rear. Looks like they have only used the front die.
The lugs are unusual but they probably were added later.
There are many planchets going around of various badges. Some rare items also. I have seen some luged.

Hi BC, the lugs unfortunately are the same as used on the original stamped badge and this badge is well gilded. I've had it for about 30 years and it hasn't tarnished at all. Thanks for your reply, Mike
