Hello Iain,
Glad all is well, have you found out about the RSM's arrangements yet, in particular, does he wear the badge above that of his rank.
Regards Frank

Sorry Frank, I'd forgotten.

I'll contact Heinrich and try to find out.

regards, Iain

LOL Iain,
On first name terms then? he will doubtless be placing one of his armoured vehicles at your disposal soon!
I take it he does have some?

Hi Frank

Yes, I've met him a few times; he's a friend of a friend.

Armoured vehicles? There are around but I've no idea how many the Regiment have. I'm surprised they haven't been sold for scrap anyway!

With the Gupta connection, the SANDF has Tata trucks these days

Maybe they're called Tata because when they break down and you have to walk......

Okay,

here's your answer:

The RSM of LHR wears the metal other ranks crossed flags cap badge above the MWO badge (2 stars) on his sleeve.

regards, Iain

He needs to get himself a proper badge, I'm sure with all that money they must have saved by buying the Tata's they must have some left for a badge or two!

That sort of expenditure, ie buying Tata rubbish, is in the hands of the "govt" not the regt.

It is not much better here sadly, it was suggested to me, not very many years ago, that the Army actually had more horses than it did tanks!

Came across this picture from 1947 recently and thought it may be of interest to anyone interested in the ILH/LHR

Tell your friend and his RSM to throw away the dross and get themselves a proper badge!

Very nice badges Frank, I've never seen one for sale.

I'm sure the use of the OR's badge for the RSM's sleeve badge is due to monetary constraints, after the govt cant fill their own accounts and equip the army properly

regards, Iain

Must still be some in South Africa, the first were the handsome solid silver riveted gilt scroll retailed via Messrs Hobson from their showrooms in London and subsequently in the 1930's they went to those awful bi metal things which were plated, as I understand, both were handed down through the regiment, in exactly the same way as one or two of the foot guard regiments here used to do.
