Hi Michael
A few thoughts to kick things off: Dukes badges - the bronze one is an OSD cap badge with the blades broken off. The O/R's bi-metal badge looks like an early lugged example, can't really comment on authenticity from the photo. London Scottish - looks OK to me and they often have a horizontal pin fastener like yours. No doubt they have been copied though so the badge experts can decide on that one. York & Lancs - good one and probably early. Looks like it has been broached, possibly for wear as a pagri badge? Nazi U-Boat badge - has been extensively copied. The majority (but not all) are maker-marked on the back. There were around 15 different makers and many variants of the genuine badges and, as I said, there are countless repros. Hope this is of some help? David |

I agree with David, the York and Lancs looks like its been broached as a pagri badge.
Does it look like its been gilded or is the brass just very shiny? Ivan |

Many thanks gents so far , Ivor I have added a better picture of the Y & L`s for your inspection , also am currious about the Dukes badge with lugs,
the small brass` ER ` badge has " 19 CROWNED 02 " across it ? Coronation insignia worn by an Royal usher????

Hi Michael
DOW cap badge looks OK to me but there are many on the forum with more expertise in cap badges than me so someone else might have a different opinion!. Given that it has lugs, if it was worn in this country it could date c.1897 - 1903 and no doubt some were still in use for several years after that. However, they were worn for a longer period in India and the 1st Battalion were stationed in India from around 1905-1920 so it could have been worn during that period also. York & Lancs - Ivan is your man for York & Lancs badges. To me, though, it looks more like an early badge which has had a pin "officially" (regimentally) applied so it could be worn as a pagri badge; rather than "unofficially" for wear as a civvy broach. If it was worn as a pagri badge they were usually (but not always) worn in India. The 2nd Bn were stationed in India 1897-1902 and the 1st Bn 1902 - 1914. I think this would be the most likely period of use but I'm sure Ivan has more idea about that than me. The ER badge - I've seen one before somewhere but can't remember where. I would say that it's more likely to be a souvenir of the Coronation, rather than something that was worn at the event but that's nothing more than a guess. The Y&L has an odd finish. I suspect that it has been gilded by a jeweller. A sweetheart conversion with the pin rather than a pagri in my opinion.

Could be, it does seem to have a "bright" finish but I thought it was just a trick of the light.

I would agree with alan, the silver plate has probably gone black on the rose and crown.
