Posted as requested in the General Chat section. Always assumed it WW1, but happy to be corrected if otherwise

hi colin
is it silver? is it hallmarked in anyway? it doesn't look it from the pics.
I don't think these are official in any way and believe AGNEWS made costume jewellery.
ive seen several different nations badges made by these guys and believe they were a range of jewellery produced at some period.
interested to hear others thoughts

Jeweler made private purchase, is plated, it's purpose? Who knows? Australian dealer thought maybe a sweetheart badge, but don't know.
Would appreciate photos of other badges of this maker if you have them.
Google gives a link to a costume jewelry website of various random jewelers maker marks, but that's not a lot to go on.
Any more info appreciated

What would be the purpose of the single lug at the top of the badge....on the back?

Could it be for the attachment of a security chain as is often seen on women's brooches?

It's a sweetheart badge made by agnew, the single lug is for the safety chain andpin to stop you loosing it which is missing.

hi magpie
it may be a sweethearts badge however im not convinced? sweethearts are generally collar badge size not hat badge size. also the agnew badges i have seen are from various periods, ww1, ww2 and a QVC item. they come in gold or gold coloured material, silver or silver coloured material and epoxy resin not enamel. i believe they collected a bunch of military badges and copied them for fashionware rather than produced at the time of a conflict for a sweetheart to ware.
you may be correct but these are my thoughts
