Hello BC,

The first thing that strikes me about this example is the complete and utter lack of voiding. I've not seen this before on an Artists badge; don't know if ther members have.

It makes me think 'economy' strike, but I don't think this badge was ever issued as such.

Peter.

I think you are right Peter,

I'm sure the Artists were not issued as an Economy badge, being made out of one metal negates the need........I believe ? a very unusual version, I'm sure the voiding was carried out during the stamping process and not fretted which adds to the uncertainty ??

Or am I as usual, totally wrong !!

Dave.

Completely agree, Dave.

I suppose I was thinking along the lines of the ASC economy bagde... all G/M, but non-voided on the economy version:

I'm out of my depth now Peter,

I can only read J.Gaylor who states that the only Economy Corps badge was the RAVC, which was originally bi-metal ???

Again, I've always thought the non voided Corps badges were just variations, at the same time, I have seen people describing the non voided RE badge as an Economy Issue, , is my ignorance showing again ???

Dave.

PS, If there are genuine variations of unvoided badges out there, it may give some credence to BC's version ?? but I'm not sure.

Dave,

It's more than likely to be me who has it wrong, mate. I dare say we are about to find out for sure though .

It will be interesting to see who the experts flatten first.

I tend to think it is a restrike which has not been completly finished, i.e. the voids punched out? The features such as the snakes (or in this case cartoon worms) and helmet detail are closer to that found on the copies than on originals, one thing for certain is the verdigris is probably genuine!

As to non-voided economy issue badges, these tend to be for larger formations such as RA, RE and ASC and unlikely for this particular badge?
