Default West Surrey Regt - FSC?

Thoughts on this one please? Appears to be "Queen's" West Surrey Regt OSD collar (Churchill Fig.46), however no other apparent fittings ever present apart from the long slider?

Could it be a Field Service Cap badge? And if so Offrs or OR's?

Andy

Ive seen a couple at fairs. I assumed fantasy badges, but on no solid ground.

Not one that is recorded in the archives nor does it feature in the Crown Imperial article (sic) that identified such badges. It is not shown in the Surrey Regt museum's collection either.

Someone appears to have been inventive with a collar badge die and a slider.

Question West Surrey

The reverse looks as though it has a "blue" finish from the pic, is this correct?

Rob,
Very brown, not a trace of blue.

Cool Colours

Andy, it's easy to be mistaken regarding screen images.

Rob,
that's not a problem... Although my images are quite good, it's never easy to replicate the item 100%..

It is certainly a curio, the slider although rough and thin looks crude and the badge may have been bronzed at one point, however it has been subjected to some wear and tear, whether this took place prior to the 1920's or post 1970 is yet (if ever) to be established!! It came with a job lot (mostly original) from a Forum member, who is honest as the day is long, and has asked me to sell a rather old collection. This is one I shall keep in my "??" box, something we should all have, when an item is not "Beyond all reasonable doubt" a FAKE!

All the best as always

Andy

It looks OK but I can't find it in my notes either. But surely it can't be an OSD ????

Cool "??" box

Andy,

I think we all have a box like that somewhere or should have, I've got odds and ends that I cannot positively identify. I think it's best to hang on to these items as new information is always cropping up.

Unofficial badges I'm sure were worn when serving overseas, many of which were never recorded.

Julian,
Hope you are well! The Queen's are one of The Regiments I collect too, and although I don't normally collect collar badges, there is clear provenance that collars were worn in the cap!

This is a nice little badge and it looks as though a brown coating has been worn off? Whether this is an attempt to deceive or not I'm not really concerned! I'll keep it in my own collection as a curio.

Best Regards

Andy

Yes, I know - I have a couple of "collars" in my KLR collection. But if they were issued with a slider (ie non collar fixture) then they would have been resealed somewhere - but there is nothing in the RACD records. Is the slider a replacement ?? Was it customised for cap wear ? Again though I find the construction unlike any officer's badge I can't see an OR wearing something as blatant as this ??? BUT I'm sending you something that may help !

A link to tie together two closely connected threads:

Do the Mods consider these might be worth merging as one thread?
