Outward Bound Badges/Patches
At some point I'd like to get these three badges and have been looking at them for some time. However, I am not sure who wore them, i.e. cadets or enlisted soldiers???
I have also seen two basic version. One had yellow classification letters, and the other has white. Is there a difference, or just manufacturers variations? Outward Bound 1.jpg Outward Bound 3a .jpg Thanks, Terry Last edited by Home Guard; 24-11-23 at 12:51 AM. |

Worn by Junior Soldiers rather than cadets. I have both in the collection.

Worn by Army Apprentice's during my time at Arborfield 1962 to 1964. The majority were 'B' a few 'C', but I never saw an 'A'.

Here is a B worn by a Junior RSM at an Army Apprentices School. Note Royal Arms in anodised superimposed on black on red chevrons.

Excellent photo Tim - any idea what the colour of the (presumably plastic) disc is behind his cap badge?

I think this pic is from AAS Chepstow. They used round Coy/Sqn identifiers (Arborfield were 'tombstone shaped and were not worn on hats - only with berets). I have two, one yellow and one a pale blue. Not sure of other colours or what Coy/Sqn they represent. Marc. If you refer to 'Vern' Stokes who orchestrated the coronation of CiiiR, then No. The pic in question was taken sometime between 1962 and 1966. AAS only started to get issued with No 2's in 1961/2, and the A/T RSM is still wearing AAS insignia, which all became redundant in 1966, when the schools became collages and their control passed to the relevant Corps i.e. RE, R.Sigs and REME, so the relevant uniform and badges were then adopted. If it is 'Vern' Stokes then he has aged very well!! |
