Hi Mike

Did you notice the "wear" on some of the teeth? Someone was thinking.

However, I wouldn't normally associate a Death's Head/Skull with HQ Sqn!!!

regards
Darrell

Very nice collection of coins Darrell. Looks like you need to put a little elbow grease into cleaning your AB Reg Coin.

Hi cw2311

Thank you.

Clean it? Sure.........right after you take the Brasso to your Canadian Parachute Corps brass badge!

Paint a bakelite up in a nice silver maybe?

Right behind you, Jumper.

regards
Darrell

I just noticed the Armoured RECCE stamping on the airborne coin, were you with the Hussars or did the RCD have a Airborne RECCE troop as well?

The RCD had an airborne recce troop after they returned to Petawawa in the 1980s.

Darrell,

For the guys served with the QOR during the AB Reg days & did their AIC or spent some significant time with the AB Reg would also receive a coin such as this one. (slightly cleaner than yours)

Cheers

After 1995, the QOR decided to produce their own coin. The first 110 of these coins were 1oz of sterling silver and nicely die struck. All coins after #110 were produced by an alternate manufacturer who made them out of some alloy metal and not nearly as nicely detailed as the first production. All these coins are numbered to the individual. I’m pretty sure they have issued several hundred to date.

Darrell,

I’ve got to hand it to the Americans, they certainly produce some cool kit and coins! These coins were given out to the QOR members who spent some time on a training exchange with the 2nd Battalion of the 19th Special Forces in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in the 1990s. It was a very nice gesture on their part.

Cheers

Darrel,

I found a picture on-line of a 2nd production of the QOR Para Coy coin. Permanently shiny!

Yes Darrell,

CAR seemed to have a period when they did not run any AIC’s, this applied to Reg Force members as well. Have you read the book Scapegoat about Kyle Brown? I believe it also mentions how several members didn’t have the opportunity to complete an AIC. Not everyone ended up with that cool sky-blue certificate!

Some of the QOR members who didn’t do an AIC spent 18 months with CAR instead, including a tour to Somalia.

Hi cw2311

Understood. Still doesn't sit well with me but there ya go, times change.

No, I never read anything on Somalia except those documents I was asked to stash away.................. (Dear SIU, I am kidding!!)

My cool sky-blue certificate was signed by the Father of the girl I just happened to be Shtupping at the time!!! He didn't like me much; not an Offr and not and INFANTeer.

regards
Darrell
