Default WW1,MGC badge painted on Helmet

Second Lieutenant John Harold Claughton. 35th Company, Machine Gun Company (Infantry). Death: 30 November 1917, Missing in action, Western Front.

The enemy certainly subjected machine gunners special attention, understandably, I suppose, the suicide club, does seem an apt name.

Looking at photographs of members of the MGC, the badge does appear to have been worn on the helmet surprisingly often, although of course, the Corps was huge, I dare say the actual number of men who did wear it upon the helmet might well have been insignificant.
