Staats arty question
I don't have Owens book and have never been sure who wore what. Can anyone tell me please if the medium sized badge illustrated was ever used as a COLLAR badge? I have a brass and a WM example.
Thanks |

Hi, to the best of my knowledge it wasn't worn as a collar badge. Regards Andrew

As far as I know this was a Transvaal Republic general service badge, worn not only by Staats Art. but by any state run organisation including the Railways.

Thanks for the help, have always thought it was not worn on a collar. One other question: was it clear who wore the same badge in BRASS?

I suspect the brass version may have been Staats Artillery as the rest of there badges are also brass.

There is a larger version of the badge shown, in both brass and WM. Have also seen a helmet plate (wreath type not the brass star) in WM.
