Help please with chevrons patch.
This embroidered red chevron patch came with a group of WWII RAF servicemans badges, medals, photos etc. Having done a bit of googling I can't find any confirmation of the RAF using Army type overseas service chevrons in WWII. I did come across the Civil Defence years of service chevrons on a black ground but this one is definately on an RAF type blue/grey backing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom.

Not sure where the idea of overseas service is from? These are service chevrons for the number of years service.

This exact type was also worn by Royal Observer Corps members (See attached image - 3 in middle of front row and chap third from left in back row with arms folded). They come in a few different varieties of woven manufacture and also printed.

Thanks both of you. That probably explains it. Tom.
