414 squadron badge
Hello everyone. I recently picked up this 414 Black Knight badge but I have been unable to establish its vintage. While its definitely postwar, I can't seem to find much more about it. Anyone have any info?
Thanks!

Hi Mike:
I collect early RCAF Squadron patches and while I can't help you specifically or with any certainty on this one, I would guess it's from the 90's, maybe up to 2002 when the squadron was disbanded (until 2009). The attached 414 patch belonged to my dad and dates from about 1950. I think it was the first, post war patch for the Squadron which existed as a Photographic Squadron between 1947 and 1950 at Rockcliffe and was tasked to do mapping work across the far north. They primarily flew C-47 Dakotas during that period. |

I haven't come up with any more details on your patch Mike. You might try contacting http://jfchalifoux.com as he has an extraordinary collection and knowledge of RCAF patches. He has an example illustrated of your patch suggesting it is post 1989.
Just for interest, I'll attach a few early, jet era 414 patches from my collection. I have dated these date to be; circa 1955, 1957 to 67, and 1967 to 1970 but stand to be corrected. |

Impressive badges! 414 is my favourite of the postwar squadrons, but I have yet to obtain any of these earlier types. Thank you for showing them!
