Q.O.Royal Glasgow Yeomanry
Hi All, I have this badge for the QORGY which had unusual looking fittings at one time, now brooched. There is a small rectangular plate top & bottom, with the remains of the fittings attached, top one looks like it could have been a slider or blade, bottom one is smaller, a lug perhaps, any ideas on this one please, or does anyone have one they could show with fittings still intact, thanks, all the best, Wilf.

Hi Wilf,
Nice looking piece !! Certainly looks like a slider has been removed from the top but could it, do you think, have been a pair of blades ?? top and bottom ?? I know I'm always right in as much as I'm generally wrong !! All the best. Dave. PS, Have you seen my Borderers badge now, I know a lot of purists will shudder but I like it and that's all the really matters !! DC. |

Hi Dave, My first thought was 2 blades but the top stub seems too thick & the bottom one is much smaller, which is what is throwing me. By the way, you've done a cracking job on the repairs, what a badge you have now for your £8, well done mate, Wilf.

Hello,
This badge was first worn as a Collar badge by the regiment, however by WW2 the O/R's were wearing it as a cap badge in thier berets. The 'correct' capbadge being too big and prone to catching into things. I have seen examples which have lugs mounted N & S, so I wonder if it is the remains of these which can be seen on your badge? Cheers Ypres, I guess the small rectangular plates could have been put on after the lugs were removed to make it easier to put new fixings on, or the fixings were on the plates already & then fixed on, probably the more likely with the badge being so small, I have a collar of the other style with lugs e/w. All the best, Wilf.

QOR Glasgow Yeomanry
Pictured are my three QOR Glasgow Yeomanry badges.
The QC I am pretty confident in calling a re-strike, but until I find a good one it will do me. The KC is the pre-war RA badge. My photography skills don't do it justice. There is a nice crimp to the slider. Although the smaller badge is shown in K&K (Fig 1469) but Churchill & lake list it as a collar badge. I would appreciate more information on it. Any original fittings are gone. There is the stub of one blade left whilst the other side shows signs of having been filed at some stage. Were these collar dogs converted for officer's berets or does some other ebay myth relate? Many thanks, Stephen. |

The collar badge is just that. However ir was also used in the hat. I have ssen WW1 photos of it in the peaked cap. I presume this was due to shortages of the full sized one. By WW2 it was the badge used in the FS cap and the GS cap.
As for the Q/C I have never seen a genuine one and I wonder if, like the Dorset yeomanry, they are fakes made for the collectors' market. While K&K may show an Officers' badge I suspect the regt ORs were wearing k/c badge until 1956 when they amlgamated and a new badge was issued in a/a. Last edited by Alan O; 28-10-10 at 11:52 AM. |

I thought I would share some phots of my Glasgow Yeomanry cap badges as they have some differences which can be seen by the phots. I believe them both to be good'uns (famous last words) but struck at different periods in the 20th century.
Any comments are welcome Gar |

As I always like to show some indisputable evidence: a good photo of the collar badge being worn in place of the sealed pattern cap badge. The soldier belongs to the QORGR and his uniform is WW1 era. ID is based on his family records rather than the cap badge which could be mistaken for another unit without the soldier's personal details.

Wilf,
I have seen a group photo of it being worn with at least one Imperial service badge in the picture. This would date its use as a Cap badge to between 1908 and 1915 as such badges fell out of use in WW1. http://www.glesga.ukpals.com/folk/forces9.htm Alan Last edited by Alan O; 30-05-12 at 04:52 PM. |

Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry
Hi Guys, I found this badge in my junk box. I really don't collect British badges, can anyone tell me if it's good and era of use (WW1 or WW2?). Dimensions are 3.6 cm high, 2 cm wide. There is some distortion as it has been worn.
Cheers, Greg Last edited by GregN; 26-08-13 at 03:12 PM. Reason: added dimensions |
