As the 25th (King's Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot had already two battalions, it was not merged in 1881, but was redesignated The King's Own Borderers. For some reason it did not get any territorial area (county) connected to it, thus no militia and volunteer battalions.

In 1887 this was "corrected" as posted by jf42. Consequently:

The regimental designation was changed to The King's Own Scottish Borderers.

3rd Battalion, The Royal Scots Fusiliers (former The Dumfries, Roxburgh,
Kirkcudbright and Selkirk (Scottish Borderers) Militia) became 3rd Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.

1st Roxburg and Selkirk (The Border) Rifle Volunteer Corps was transferred from The Royal Scots Fusiliers to The King's Own Scottish Borderers.
In 1891 it became 1st Roxburg and Selkirk (The Border) Volunteer Rifle Corps.
In 1908 it was merged into 4th (The Border) Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.

1st Berwickshire Rifle Volunteer Corps was transfered from The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) to become 2nd (Berwickshire) Volunteer Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.
In 1908 it was merged into 4th (The Border) Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.

1st Dumfriesshire Rifle Volunteer Corps was transferred from The Royal Scots Fusiliers to become 3rd (Dumfries) Volunteer Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.
In 1908 it was merged into 5th (Dumfries and Galoway) Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.

The Galloway (Kirkcudbright and Wigtown) Rifle Volunteer Corps was transferred from The Royal Scots Fusiliers to The King's Own Scottish Borderers. In 1891 it became The Galloway (Kirkcudbright and Wigtown) Volunteer Rifle Corps.
In 1908 it was merged into 5th (Dumfries and Galoway) Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Useful info, thanks. Also in 1968 the KOSB absorbed the south Lanarkshire recruiting area upon disbandment of The Cameronians.

Rgds, Thomas.
