I think having now seen all the contributions that this is a pure and simple attempt to "Pull the Wool", and in this case for just a few pounds! Luckily the sum paid was not enormous!

Thank you for all of your comments Gentlemen, I found this badge very puzzling..... First let me say that I've been associated with Bays badges for nearly 70 years and have seen some dodgy ones.
But my opinion on this one is this,
I am not convinced that the crown has been added to the wreath.
You have to handle it to see and feel.
The metal is exactly the same.
There is not the slightest sight or feel of a join.
There has been no lugs attached, perfectly clear back with a well aged slider and wire.
My thoughts are this....it is an original one piece blank that at some time later has had a slider and wire fitted, very professionally.
As I said originally you need to see and feel it.
But at £8-40 at least it has aroused interest. Thank you once again.

Interesting thread,as I have 2 of these larger type QVC badges, one with lugs which is an obvious fake.
However I have this one in gilt with the similar length reinforcing bar,but a longer slider compared with Sketchley Kid's.This one has never been adulterated regarding the QVC crown, which has always been part of the badge.

Default 2DG.

Apart from slider length exactly spot on same as mine, I've done fine metal work and brazing and this badge has not been bodged in any way..and it is slightly thicker but defo not a cast.....it is fractionally bigger than most Bays badges,
I think we know each other...
Oh yes...I've borrowed your pics!!
Steady the Bays.

Here's my KC FIRMIN made badge, interestingly it has the long reinforcing bar.
Cheers Tony.

I've seen bars that even show through the front of the badge, it's this particular badge that is the puzzle , with this crown, the one that I and 'Spread Eagle' have.
Mine is also gilt under the gunge.

I'm wondering if the one pictured by Wright 241 had blades originally, often broke off and were replaced in workshops I've done some!
I's evidently never had a slider.

It might have had blades but I would have to get DaveC to remove the current very badly soldered lugs to find out. Howard's explanation to me about how these got the "whitened wash/finish" sounds plausible, so its staying as it is for now. Here is a closeup of the strengthening bar and no sign of a slider for info purposes.

It could be because its definitely heavier than I would have expected - its 11.5gms#1. Is a bronze die struck version likely?
#1 there is the weight of the extra solder to take into account....
Of the 2 KC Bays badges I have, one has additional fretting of the "B" - the other doesn't. Considering its die-cast and has blades, its only .7gms heavier than the "WM" one.... So you could be right. As you have mentioned before, the detailing on the front is very, very good and apart from the finish - dare I say - officer quality... Now who is being controversial...

I have a bronze officers one, blades broken but workshop slider fitted, but on this you can see where blades were.
Best I can do!
