Thanks for sharing that.

If I didn't know the three letters were "ADC" - I think I would still be looking at it in several months time trying to work it out.
Nice button by the way.

Hi Ron,

Have you ever seen a picture of the whole alphabet using that font. I have a few Officer's Mufti buttons from that era that have similar style lettering that I am struggling to identify.
I can usually work out the stylised script letters and most of the Gothic font letters - but this over elaborate Germanic style just stumps me.

Hello Ron

Lovely button and thanks for sharing. Just as confusing to identify as the normal officers' 'mufti' buttons! Glad you were able to get a positive ID otherwise we would have been struggling over this one for ages!

This is close to it, just my button has more flourishes.

Many thanks for that Ron.
That alphabet template will be a great help future.

Cheers

Whilst you have your eye-in with this elaborate script.

Any idea on the lettering on this button please.

Thanks

Ian

Just found a better match for my button.
It is possible that your button also reads ADC?

Ron,

Yes, that is a better fit to the letters used on your button.
You could well be right about mine also being "ADC". I have spent quite a while looking at the letters and comparing them against the example font. Apart from a few obvious letters - I could convince myself of it being almost any letter.

Thanks again for providing that - it has certainly got me closer to ID'ing the letters/button than I was before.

All the best

Ian

Well, hats off to you two chaps as even though I have been told what the initials are and seen an equivalent alphabet, I still can't work out what the individual letters are on either button!

A curse on those who decided to use these awful letter styles on buttons! What was wrong with using good old block CAPITALS so that we could all read them!!

I think Queen Victoria was a fan of German Gothic through her beloved Albert.
