Default The Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada

Hi,

I just left the fleamarket this morning bare handed...

Then I wandered the streets to find only one garage sale!

I guess the "cosmic lucky rays" were focusing on me then... the guy got this out of his garage!

A BlackWatch officer's cap badge!

Nice overlays... it's my first officer's cap badge... at least the first one that is this finely made.

Now.... for the experts, is it First World War or second?

Don't know if it shows well, but it's marked "JR Gaunt Montreal Made in England"

Any ideas of the value... not that I want to sell.

Allo Patrick, this model of cap badge was worn from roughly 1939 to 1953'ish when the unit changed from KC to QC. Since it was an officer's badge it could have been worn for a few more years after depending if the owner stayed in the unit or left after 1953.
A really nice badge.

Nice find. Pouring rain here, but that seems to be every weekend. Not much action on the garage sale front.

Very nice find. The Gaunt officer badges are scarcer than those by Scully, but not necessarily more costly. I'd estimate your badge's worth at $250 - 300.

Thanks all.

I'll get this one cleaned... there is still a lot of old "polish" stuck behind the badge.

The garage sales front "sucks" this year.... being a Rona "partner" for now... I get the joy of working 9-5 every Saturdays.

Misère!
