An oddity? Plated Cameron Highlanders Badge...
Here are some pics of a 43rd CEF Cameron Highlanders cap badge. The front has been plated - nickel/silver/white metal?? and the back shows plain copper. I've never seen this before. Would this be an officer's badge with an economy measure to save nickel? An "aftermarket" modification? Standard practice for certain NCO/officer badges? I need help!
Cheers, Ian. Last edited by whizzbang; 05-05-09 at 12:26 AM. Reason: Added pics |

I am not sure for who the badge was issued, but I have had a couple of similarly finished badges for the Cameron battalions. The one that comes to mind is a 174th, that had lost much of the plating.

Didn't Piper and Drummers do this to their badges?

Hi Tom, A few CEF piper badges were unique patterns, made specifically for the pipers. They are extremely scarce. The PPCLI, 26 Bn, 49 Bn, 102nd Bn and the Forestry Corps PBs all had unique badges. The other highland units likely used the battalion badge for the piper, maybe in a plated finish or in silver.

Hi Bill,
Thanks didn't realise specific badges were used for CEF :-) You learn something everyday :-) ATB, Tom |
