Smile KC Derbyshire

What is the forum members opinion of the King's Crown bi-metal cap badge with the scroll "DERBYSHIRE" and a slider?

I believe there have been threads on this before a long while ago, but since then has anyone any further information.

All thoughts and opinions welcome.

Rob

Wasn't that the tread where one of the regularly banned members boasted how he and a friend knocked one up using the scroll from a Victorian badge applied to a Notts & Derby top part to fool a local society? It's easy to do.

I have a looped Derbyshire but it could also be a marriage and have seen a bronze one on a hat (should have bought it). I'm sure there's someone on here who has a proper one.

Default Knock-up

Keith,

I think I can remember the thread, yes, it is easy to make spurious badges by using different parts of other badges, but I have wondered whether the KC Derbyshire is not similar to the two turret KC Suffolk which was produced in the early part of the last century, something that should have never existed in theory.

Thanks for the reply.

Rob

Rearrange these words into a well known phrase or saying

Pole wouldn't barge it touch with a.

Only genuine examples of this badge exist on loops.

Default Slider

Paul,

You noticed I put the word "slider" on my opening post, yes, the words barge and pole do come to mind.

Cheers Rob

Hi All,
I think Rob may be right. I have the badge with lugs.
Cheers, Tinto

Rob,
here's mine although the lugs, well one if not both have been repaired at some stage (not by Dave), there's some braze to the rear of the crown, but I don't think it has ever been slidered?!

These badges are all fakes. The ACD records of the period shown 2 ORs' badge types:

1. The QVC with Derbyshire title. Sealed pattern number 2459 dated 1897. K&K 661.
2. The K/C with Notts & Derby title. Sealed pattern number 6009 dated 1903. K&K 662.

As nice as it would be to imagine an ORs' badge with the kc and derbyshire title, the ACD records show otherwise. The fact that K&K goes from 661 to 662 is a bit of a give away!

The volume of these k/c derbyshire badges on ebay with sliders and lugs should be an indication that someone is capitalising on collector's lack of knowledge. Any dealer that tells you otherwise should be directed to go to Kew.
