Default Scottish Horse I.Y.

Hi all! just arrived yesterday and found Rockapes post only after coming back from holidays, had already won this on E-bay though, can still return if not happy with it so am asking for your help so I don,t return a good badge because of my own doubts (Which I have!) lot of flashing to rear as can be seen in photo also what appears to be feet on lugs you may just see this in picture also, not easily discerned though! this may be how they were though? havent held one in my hands so don,t know if this is normal? (don,t think this is right personally), sizes are width (1.704") 43.30 Height (1.772") 45.05 thickness (0.055") 1.5.
Hope this helps thanks in advance billy

Hi Billy,

Sorry, I'm not a fan of the badge shown. It doesn't tick all the boxes I showed in my badge guide. You have seen a number of faults yourself that has made you sceptical about this badge.

The white metal version was worn on the Atholl bonnet and the guilding metal version on the slouch hat. Have a look at the photo I have attached. In particular note the arrows pointing to some specific features of the badge. The first (left) arrow is pointing to a leaf that juts out of the wreath by itself. The copies don't seem to have this feature. Secondly, the right hand side of the wreath is tight in against the oval circlet, whereas your example is quite different. However, the fake I showed in my guide does have the wreath hugging the circlet.

It took me 20 years to find the slouch hat badge. I'm hoping someone will show their pukka WM bonnet version to add weight to the discussion.

Garry

Hi,
Here is my white metal example. Not sure whether it's a hat or collar badge.
Cheers, Tinto

Tinto, With those dimensions and metal colour it's the bonnet badge. See Barlow & Smith, 8: Lovat Scouts & Scottish Horse, P.14.

The guilding metal badge I showed earlier for the slouch hat is 44m high. Thanks for showing.

Billy don't get disheartened, one will come along when you least expect it. I hope you don't have to wait as long as I did!
