Hi Gerard,
I'm certainly no expert but I'm not sure with the detail above the crown. I have 4 Middx Regt badges including 7-9th Regt and they have less space between top of crown and base of feathers. I understand silvered finish was for regimental band. May be totally wrong so don't just take my opinion. Would be interested to see what other members think. Regards, Lee. |

Gerard,
from the images the slider looks good and the colour of the braze too? I would not rush to dispose of it, it is a badge I do not have an example of so I'd wait too see what other members have to say! It could well be OK and just in un-used condition? Andy |

Hi Gerard.
I am of the opinion that your badge is fine. I have 2 white metal badges to 7th - 9th, shown below. DSC01344.jpg The one on the left is on lugs and is a 2 piece construction, the other is a one piece badge and is in fact a white metal 'Regulars' badge with an overlaid South Africa scroll. Both are different to your offering. However: Below are 4 of my bi-metal 7th - 9th badges, all are slightly different: DSC01340.jpg DSC01343.jpg As you will see, one of them is very similar to your badge, especially in respect of the gap between the coronet and plume. I have a theory, which I have yet to prove is conclusive, which is that a lot of these badges, in bi-metal and possibly in white metal as well, were poorly made with several variations for whatever reason and issued to the chaps as they were. As for what they were made for; well, possibly either for Senior NCOs or as a 'walking out' badge, but nothing definite. So, keep your badge.
