6th VB THE"KINGS"
Bought this bright as a"new penny"badge today.
I am under no illusions as to it not being a fake. Thought it may be of interest, compared with an example on KLR's album I want to raise the following points. a)The left end of the scroll incomplete(similar to the fake RA badges. b)Withered top front leg. c)Extra metal to horses nose. d)V is unvoided. e)Font of K. Cost £3.50 bought as a gap filler, reckon the real thing would cost a few tens of pounds more. Cheers Tony.

Tony,
It is frightening how with a little more effort the maker could have produced a badge that a lot of people might have been happy to pay £75-£100 for. I recently bought a repro 6th V.B. glengarry badge and a repro 5th Lancs ( Liverpool Volunteer Rifle Brigade )R.V.C. shako plate for a few pounds each just to make sure they were repros as they looked so good in the pictures. Like this badge they appeared to be die stamped but they both had gilt finishes. If the glengarry had been in white metal it could have passed for the real thing. Makes you wonder at the source of these items, whoever is making them is not making themselves a fortune. Peter

Tony, it's very close but I think your observations are correct. Moreover, there are some details that are not quite right for a badge of this age - mane, tail, ground. These three details look more like a badge made from about 1915 onwards. I have got a badge with ground like this that is earlier but not with the combination seen on yours.
Anyway, a "bargain" at £3 ! |
