Default RN Gunner - Help with badges needed

Hi All,

I've been researching a relative who died in WW2 and I known he was an Able Seaman working as a gunner on HMS Achates.

I have been given a modern blue PCS shirt and would like to badge it up in the modern equivalent of what he would have worn but know nothing about RN badges.

I have found photos of the WW2 naval tombstone badge with crossed cannons and presume that was his trade but can't see a modern version in the white. Does that crossed cannon badge still exist or has it been changed to something else now?

Looking at photos on line I also need a black slide to go on the epaulette, am I right in thinking at his rank it would just have "Royal Navy" on?

Thanks for the help,

Michael

There was a large variety of gunnery badges during, and after the 2WW. Some badges consited of a single gun with / without stars and with/without letters. Whilst others were crossed guns with stars / crowns and with /without letters. you may need to do a little more digging. I am going out at the moment but will try to send you images later.

Thanks very much John,

I'm not sure if I can find much more, I haven't got his record all that I know is that he was a gunner.
