Hens teeth- Volunteer long service medal
I collect a few medals in addition to insignia, most of my medals are either Volunteer Long Service or Territorial medals ( or groups to territorials ) to the Kings Liverpool Volunteers and Territorials.
I was very please to acquire a Volunteer Long Service Medal to the 7th ( Isle of Man ) Volunteer battalion, a George 5th WW1 issue some time ago but I never even hoped I might acquire a Volunteer Long Service medal to the 8th (Scottish ) V.B. of the Kings Liverpools. The battalion was only formed in 1900 and became the 10th territorial battalion in 1908 and the qualification for the medal was 20 years service. I have now acquired a Volunteer Long Service medal named to 82 SJT.F.V.A. LLOYD 8/V.B. L`POOL REGt. It appears to be absolutely genuine and I can only assume that the recipient must have served in another volunteer unit before transfering to the Liverpool Scottish. I presume that I have one of the few, possibly the only, example of this medal to the unit ( unless I misunderstand the required qualifications ). It seems you can find anything if you look long and hard enough. P.B.

I would read the qualification as a total of 20 years service, with the unit served with at time of qualification being marked on medal, a soldier may have changed unit more than once even (moved from one area to another for example)
