Default Caps. royals

I knew these as Caps, royals as worn by regiments or corps with Royal titles such as the RF , RA and REME. They were originally worn with No 1 dress (blues) but later replaced the Khaki cap worn with No 2 dress when it was first introduced.

It is a British army hat, probably dating from the 1970s or 1980s. The pattern is "Royal" and would have been worn by soldiers of any of the following regiments and corps:-
RA
REME
Royal Anglian
QLR
Kings
Kings Own Border
Queens
There may have been others.
The chinstrap is not the correct pattern and has been added, as has the "continental" cap badge

If it were a Grenadier Guards hat there would be a brass trim to the edge of the peak. By "continental" I meant that badge has its origins in Europe somewhere but not in UK

Attached examples are a Grenadier Guardsmans cap & (I think) a Sergeants cap, the rank shown by the 'brass' edge to peak, plus the correct badge! which is worn higher..

P.S. My old corps, the RAOC also wore the Cap Royal before amagamation into the RLC which does not

The second cap with the two brass rings is, I think, a Lance Sergeant. No doubt Andy, or grenadierguardsman will correct me if I'm wrong.

Just ,
Can you please tell us what chin strap buttons are on the hat or post a picture of them.

Thanks.

You are right, but it proves the point re guardsmans No1 Dress Caps (Also note the peaks are almost always reduced in size aka 'Slashed')

I found this list relivent to all Regiments of Foot Guards:

One brass band - Guardsman and Lance Corporal
Two brass bands - Lance Sergeant
Three brass bands - Sergeant & Colour Sergeant

One gold band - Bandsman and Band Lance Corporal
Two gold bands - Band Lance Sergeant
Three gold bands - Band Sergeant & Colour Sergeant

Four gold bands - Warrant Officer class 2
Five gold bands - Warrant Officer class 1

The peaks themselves are replaced on promotion.
