Badged Headwear
Heres a selection of photo's Ive taken of badged NZ headwear ,that i have chronicaled in the last two years of collecting these items.Also augmented with hats and tunics from other collections.Feel free to comment and add your NZ headwear thread .

(2) WW1 Foreign service helmet,1902 pattern,unbadged,but service number to a Otago Mounted rifles trooper,dated 1914. (3) WW2 Solar pith,hat.Onward cap badge. |

(1) WW2 general service cap,Onward cap badge.Worn in Italy ,and J force in the occupation of Japan.
(2) WW2 Black beret,Onward cap badge with red backround ,NZ armoured corps. Black bererts were also worn by members of the NZ Divisional Cavalry.They wore an Onward badge with green backround.New Zealanders in the LRP/LRDG also wore a black beret. Last edited by pukman; 21-11-12 at 04:55 PM. |

(1) Boer War field service side cap,Service number to a 9th contingent trooper,Fern general service cap badge.

Having recently started collecting NZ badges from the other side of the world, and at the moment not even having a decent reference book on the subject, I found your photos very interesting and helpful. Congratulations on talking the initiative by posting the great images of the badged headwear. Unfortunately I don't collect hats and caps, however I hope that others will post other examples, which can only increase our understanding of military headwear. Once again many thanks. Cheers John |

Thanks for the kind comments gentlemen,
this is a learning initiative for everyone interested.I have been fortunate enough to have been in contact with many of New Zealand's leading collectors /authoritarions /authors in the uniform and badge collecting field and am greatful for their shared knowledge. While this coat is not badged it does have first pattern NZRB buttons.The second pattern buttons have NZRB embossed on them.This mounted services warm,was worn by Private Henry(Harry) Parker,service nummber 18937,NZRB who was badly wounded at the Somme on the 15th of September 1916.His left leg was amputated above the knee.
