E bay seller
Does anyone else think this sellers stuff is dubious? (And I'm being kind in saying dubious)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2nd-Volunt...item35bfa73535 He even has a get out clause of 'Due to the never ending debate on originality of badges you must purchase this badge assuming it is not original'. Has anyone dealt with this dealer before or has he been mentioned on the forum in the past? Ivan |

Ivan,
I have looked at his stuff and don't like any of it and would not touch with a very long barge pole. Two items that I can guarantee are not genuine (I have genuine examples of both) are the 2nd West Yorks Vols Glengary that your link leads to and the West Yorks vols cap badge. The worrying thing is that the West Yorks vols cap badge is a much better copy than the usual ones as it actually has the vols scroll in the right place. |

Thanks Marcus, its not just me that thinks his stuff is dodgy then.
I agree with what you say about the 2nd West Yorks badge, its not like my example either. Sad thing is, someone is buying this crap. Ivan |

I have bought from this seller once. I assumed it was repro, and wasn't disappointed. I got a good gap filler at the right price but his prices have crept up since.

Here is a link to his website. He clearly says that they are restrikes on his site, I think that he stalls out at Bedford

I don't have a problem at all with his web site.
It's completly up-front with what is a re-strike and I do agree with him some what about if there were no copies, a lot of people would be left with a lot of gaps in their collections when it comes to rare andexpensive badges. I'm not so sure why he is not so up-front with the ebay stuff though? |

I think he has also done the Bushey Fair, and does not seem to seek to trap the unwary - but I'm not disagreeing with the discussion above. More worrisome is the 'Staybrite' section of his site, where some of the badges illustrated are not even of that manufacture.

Why are so many members of this forum, so seemingly anti about most e-bay sellers?
Yes, I know there are 'dodgy geezers' out there, but, for goodness sake, he is saying they are likely re-strikes. Got off his case and go for the obviously duplicitious sellers. No, i am not he or do do i know who he is. S |

I, like many other forum members use ebay.
There are many reputable sellers on ebay, some are forum members, others are not forum members. There are also other sellers on ebay who when it comes to selling badges cover the whole spectrum between lying and being slightly vague about the authenticity of their badges. What I am saying is that this particular seller is selling fake badges and although he makes it clear on his website that the badges he sells are fakes/copies/repros, he isn't so clear on his ebay site. At best that is a little bit naughty, at worst dishonest. If members of this forum can warn collectors about sellers of fake badges (ebay, dealers websites or any other medium), then that can only be good for the hobby (as well as saving someone money). Just my thoughts. Ivan |
