Interesting WW2 RAOC Officer Group
I have recently acquired through the family here in the U.S. items belonging Albert W. Penna. Mr Penna first joined the Army at age 17 in 1919. His step father signing for him. His father having been killed in 1917.
Unsure at this point how long his first enlistment lasted. However he was back in the Army 1940-41 as a Lieutenant eventually moving through the ranks to Lt. Col. According to his grandson he was involved with Tanks in North Africa during WW2 The items that I have currently pertain to his WW2 and post war service as an officer in the RAOC. Having served in North Africa he was Mentioned in Despatches in 1941 and was awarded the Military OBE in 1955 upon leaving the service. He appears to have also served in Greece at some point as a Greece Military Mission badge was amongst his possessions. I will start to post these items. The first item which I found interesting is his British Legion badge and membership card. Numbers matching on badge and in book. It was the British Legion Branch that caught my eye, Egypt while he was living in Cairo. Joining in 1936. More to come Jack
