Default Early Staffords cloth Beret badge

I believe this to be a NI 1970's period. Staffords Beret badge.

black silky back ground with screen printed (not woven) badge.
Can anyone confirm the date worn.

Regards

Stephen

Is it more likely to be a helmet cover flash- say, from the Gulf 1990-1991?

Just recieved the following information from the regiment

This particular badge was issued by the QM Major Douglas Forrester Colin MBE without permission of the Army and it was withdrawn and the majority of them were burnt. some spares made it to the museum. They were used on the Londonderry Tour of NI 1979-81.

made my day

Intriguing. It sounds like someone at some point may have been called in for an interview without coffee.

Interesting comment as this one (which seems identical) was worn by 1 STAFFORDS on their OP BANNER Tour in South Armagh in 1984.

Default STAFFORDS beret badge

Here it is folded, removed from a dark blue beret.
