Okay now I'm confused!
That appears to be a date letter "S" Birmingham ninth cycle hallmark, if so, it would be circa 1992! Regards Frank Quote:

I also have an example of the Dowler.Birmingham AA badge. Have you noticed how square the feathers are in appearance compared to the rounded ones? There is also an identical pattern badge with square feathers in WM with an unmarked slider, found with both a voided and a non voided Queens Crown. This could also have been made by Dowler as the Gaunt AA badges are the same pattern as the WM QC JR Gaunt London badges that you have mentioned. Jack |

Hello Jack,
No, I had not noticed, again, it is seeming to be an area in which more research is need, I like the Dowler made badges, I think they are really quite scarce. Many thanks for your thoughts on this, kind regards, Frank Kelley Quote:

Hello Mike,
I don't think that I've bought a silver example for quite some time, the last, was, I think, one of these with those wretched long loops. Kind regards Frank |

Hi Frank,
If you don't like those wretched long loops I'll gladly take them off your hands (along with the nice badge that they are attached to of course) This looks to be a Gaunt pattern badge, it is identical to the other ranks with slider marked JR Gaunt London badge in my opinion. If you study the crown and lion and the inner and outer curved feather shapes you may come to the same conclusion. Jack |

Hello Jack,
Yes, I bet that particular badge is rather more thicker and a little more heavy than the solid crown Gaunt badge, both are early badges, not common either, I really can't remember the last time I saw one like your badge. Kind regards Frank |

Yes it is a thicker, heavier badge than the solid crown badge, the only other one I have seen is still on the Buywyze site which was sold with a collar badge I believe. Apparently the earlier badges had the Gaunt name running upwards on the slider towards the crown. I believe this is common to all Gaunt London badges. Regards, Jack |

Perhaps this one is of interest to you Frank, blackened Dowler picked up today. I assume all is good with it.

The Parachute Regt black anodised cap badges with sliders tend to be the more scarcer of the group in my opinion. For interest, my AA Para Regt set comprises of the following:- Made AA black:- Lugs - blank slider marked Dowler Birmingham Slider marked JR Gaunt Bham Silver AA with slider:- Kings crown - blank (yeah right) Smith & Wright (early font and slider) JR Gaunt London JR Gaunt Bham LB&B Grove MFG (metal slider) Dowler Birmingham HW Timings Ltd Bham Blank slider Silver AA with lugs:- LB&B made in England blank blank - with odd flattened wings which appear short. If anyone can add to this list, I'd be all ears! All the best gents for the weekend Bess |
