Default DLOY 'Chromed??' cap badge for opinions

A fellow collector friend had this at Whiston this morning, if anyone has any knowledge of this possibly chromed badge it would be appreciated if shared.
Thanks
Paul

Looks white metal to me. If it was chrome at the time of manufacture would the slider not also be chrome?

Dave.

Thanks Dave,
That came up in the discussion we had and if the slider was added after plating it was thought it would mess up the badge. I think the general consensus was that it was chromed. It had a heavier than usual feel to others of this type.

Paul,

Generally speaking, the application of heat to affix the slider on a chrome badge would cause it to discolour. However, I suppose he may have got away with it.

I must say I agree with Dave on this, trying to add a slider to a chromed badge is not easy and does discolour the badge due to the heat involved.

Maybe the badge was chromed without the slider being involved, is this possible?

Rob,

It is possible but you would have to effectively seal the slider in some way so as to prevent the chemical solution "taking" on it. A lot of messing about I should think. But then why would you want the slider to be white metal and the badge itself chrome?

Dave.

Personally I have never seen a chrome plated badge without chromed fittings.

I think its WM.

I think perhaps the metal/finish is not why the badge was posted, more a question of who wore it with the silver/chrome/white metal finish when DLOY badges of this design are usually brass or bronze finish.

Something has occurred to me, according to Litchfield ( The Territorial Artillery page 136 ) the 78th (Duke of Lancaster`s Own Yeomanry ) Medium Regiment. R.A.,T.A. was in 1945 reorganised and designated as 78th Regiment R.A. (Auxiliary Police )(Duke of Lancaster`s Own Yeo )(T.A.)

I wonder if the badge is from this period when they were Auxiliary Police ( whatever duties that involved them in ) ?

P.B.

I must admit I have not seen either a white metal or chrome badge for this Regt. Why would you want a red rose appearing to be white? It doesn't make sense.

It has been reproduced in the heraldically incorrect white metal:
