Post war R.E.M.E. soldier wearing the medal ribbons for the 1939/45 Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star and the France and Germany Star.

The cap badge seems to be WM which is unusual. is it a crop or is there any more of the photo showing formation signs?

I don't think that the badge is WM, probably just a trick of the light from flash photography. Sadly, what you see is what you get. It is a mounted studio photograph rather than a post card.

I don't think it is very post war as he doesn't have the Defence or 1939-45 War Medal up. What colour do you think the beret is?

Post war enough for the medal ribbons to have been issued but certainly before 1947.

Only black berets were available (on issue) before 1947. In the latter year the blue general service pattern began to be issued.

Perhaps he was attached RTR / RAC.
