A "Badge Backing", a Wood Plane & a Rail Pass all "RSM J LEE VC
I saw the glengarry on ebay, strange backing plate, badge doesn't look good.
It sold yesterday. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cameron-Hi...vip=true&rt=nc Then I found the link to the same details being on a wood plane - looks like the same stamp that was used on the brass plate was used on the plane. http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtop...?f=52&t=158228 Then I found that a rail pass to "RSM J LEE" issued 1915 and marked (On War Service" was sold on ebay in June 2013. Is the badge backing a "proper" item or a newer invention Has somebody got a stamp out there, that they're using on brass sheet, lumps of wood and bits of cardboard? Was there a J Lee VC ? A brief search hasn't found that there was. Interesting....... |

There is not a VC winner with the surname of Lee prior to 1914 or during WW1 listed anywhere. Personally, I never trust an ebay seller who uses the phrase 'I am selling off items of my dad....' etc or phrases of similar ilk....call me a sentimentalist but if I had my fathers cap badge marked with his name and if he was a holder of the VC then I would be treasuring the item & not selling it on ebay. I find the whole thing strangely suspicious.
There is a record for a Private John Lee, Service number S/25900 Cameron Highlanders for 1917 on the 'Forces War Records' website. Last edited by Charliedog012012; 02-04-15 at 11:20 AM. |

RSM J Lee VC
I have an Anodised Aluminium Seaforth Highlanders badge by Firmin which has the RSM J Lee VC stamp on the back plate and 788 where the GV is shown on the example. I am pretty sure my badge is OK as I found it in an old tool box at a car boot fair perhaps they are some sort of souvenier from a military museum ?
