Lancashire Fusiliers Two Tens
A recent purchase: a Lancashire Fusiliers arm sign, a red cloth circle with the two Roman X in white. Now, according to Morris, the shape of the sign should be a rectangle, is this round shape some sort of battalion distinction or just a variant of this sign?

John Waring lists (Identification Pamphlet No 2) 16 different First World War LF battalion flashes. None of them feature the XX in any format. Mike

Not one I have come across and as an LF item I would expect it to be in maroon and primrose, the regimental colours.

therefore if it's not Lancashire Fusiliers, what other regiment could it be? Or could it be a Battalion sign?

Sadly there are numerous such cloth badges, produced with a purpose at the time and not always military, the significance of which has been lost in the mists of time.
I have a large file of them sitting on my computer and will add yours in the hope that the mystery may be solved one day. Home Guard could just be a possibility? Jon |
