Default Badges on BD

I don't collect uniforms, but I don't turn them away either. Even with this random group of four, the variety is remarkable. It might be possible to trace the wearer of the HLI blouse - by his full war service. his MC and the Army Flying Badge. Mike

Mike,

I'm with you on that one. The variety of badge combinations is enormous.

Here's an obscure one - the small inverted triangle - blue/blue ? worn by 9 Med Regt RA (formed from 8 RWK) in NWE winter of 1944/45 - he's busy "winterising" a Jeep.

I have the following for 9th Medium;

9th MEDIUM REGIMENT RA
A rectangle divided diagonally (\) buff over dark blue.
Formed in 1942 from the 8th Battalion The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment).

Marc

According to their website my information is wrong, and they did wear an inverted triangle buff and blue, buff to the front.

Default Men of Kent and Kentish Men

To add further confusion - I have the rectangle divided diagonally as described by Marc as having been worn by 11 Buffs (and from Nov 41 by 89 LAA Regt) RA. I find it difficult to discern what the RKWK's regimental colours were - I have notes of RWK battalion flashes in 1. Blue 2. Lt Blue/Dark Blue 3. Mid Blue/Green/French Grey/Green/Red 4. Dark blue/Yellow/Grey as well as the white horse on black disc, oval, equilateral triangle and rectangle. It's exhausting! Mike

Found the cause of the mistake. There was a digit missing in the original notes and the rectangle is 89 LAA, and Jon's post is yellow and blue worn by 109 LAA. I now have to amend my pages.

The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment).

Mike,

Can I ask where that photo of the soldier winterising jeep comes from? It does appear to be 9th Medium Regiment RA (8Buffs) from the badges seen.

I am always on the look out for additions to my website 9thmediumregimentra.com

Cheers
Anthony

Hopefully we are now at a time when a complete badged battledress is now worth as much, if not more, than the the individual value of the insignia on it so b.d. blouses will not longer be stripped of their badges to be sold off individually.

P.B.

Hopefully the same for any uniform item including headgear and SD tunics as well as BD.

As Peter says badged BD should be worth somewhat more then the sum of the badges.

For those interested in postwar badged BD can I draw their attention to the C&T sale on 24th August which has six badged BD and one badged Service dress - Lots 173 to179.

I have to declare an interest as they are from my collection.

The BD include a King's Regiment 40th Division Korea veteran's, a Royal Engineers Gibraltar Fortress Engineers and one to a Sharpshooters MC winner. The SD is badged to a Welsh Guardsman serving with the Guards Armoured Division.

Happy bidding if you do.

Jon

Darnation -I'd probably have liked the WG SD.
(And I now know that predictive text "corrects" darnation to carnation).

No, apart from not knowing who C&T are I don't do offers or auctions apart from some e-bay purchasing - I prefer how much, here money, gibbee gibbee.
Edit - thanks for the link.

The Cheshire BD badges look OK they are the correct badges for the 60's. The BD is to the 4th or 7th battalions TA as it has the cerise and buff regimental flash with the buff to the front, the 1st battalion had cerise to the front. The 42nd Division is the right way up the 2nd pattern Mercian badge looks a bit pale, but that could just be the photo.
