I'd go for that - the badge fits from what I can make out.
Wearing his collar badge in his cap?

WW1 Australian Siege Brigade. The badge is one of only three official badges worn by the AIF (rising sun and Naval Bridging Train). The badges were made in Australia (Stokes) and in UK (Gill B'ham).
