Default 1st Royal Dragoons (Analysis)

Hi All

This particular cap badge to the 1RD has been a chin rubber for me..... you see many examples of this one, but whats good and whats less so?

Here are three examples of what I think is the genuine article.... they have crimped sliders and also a "join mark" on the scroll tabs that fix to the crown.

* The tail of the lion is not joined to its back and there is a strengthening bar joining the tail to the head of the lion.
** To date I have not found a genuine x3 loop example of this particular cap badge.

Griff,
That's a very good point on the tail being joined 'as I scarpered off to check my example' it is QVC but the same join as your two nice examples

Thanks Paul

The 1RD QVC has two types, the first type found with x3 loops ... as seen below on the blue background.

The second type can be found with x3 loops and also x2 loops N/S

* Both scrolls are seen on later Kings crown examples from their respective makers.

referring to post #1 now.... here is an example that displays no scroll tab marks but appears to be good .... a later strike perhaps or a good copy? There is a feint crimp mark on the slider. Is the tail joined to the back..... it looks like it? So I would go with a copy.

Hi Jim

Nice example If you look at the QVCs above you will see the same scroll on one of the makers QVC.....
