Default Para and SWB help

Hi All,

I've just picked these up and was hoping for some opinions on them.

The makers mark on the SWB is a little longer than the one shown in the makers mark section on here, I'd say about 25mm.

Thanks for the help.

Michael

Thanks Alan, when you say slider does that mean the real ones are all lugged?

As far as I am aware the wartime ones were. Sliders were post war I believe. The blob and square feathers added to that are the key.

I have never actually seen a single example with a slider that I would want to buy as an original badge, slider pockets on berets are post war and the Kings crown badge was wore well beyond 1953.
I had known a number of men who had all originally served, both at the end of the war, often in the General Service Corps and others who had missed out on wartime service completely and they all had lugged badges, after joining the regiment, you do, on occasion, sometimes encounter berets with their slider pockets deliberately removed.

Some WW2 produced badges such as the Gaunt pattern ones had their lugs removed and replaced by a slider for post War use. The only Queens crown Para badges with a slider that I am happy with are the J.R. Gaunt London marked examples.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm learning a lot here. It sound's like if you know what type of head dress the unit wore it will help you a lot.

Has anyone got any thoughts on the SWB badge? Is there a way to date this one and is it real or another copy?

Michael

The design dates from c.1896. However, that maker's mark with that size font dates from the 1950's. The SWB stopped wearing that badge in 1958.
