19th Alberta Mounted Rifles
Hi Gents,
I just posted a photo of this badge on this related thread (http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ead.php?t=4883). However it is such a nice and rather scarce badge I thought I would post it on a dedicated thread to see if anyone has any other examples? This is a gilt/silver example and is marked 'J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd Birm'. The regiment was (as I understand it) only in this form from 1908-1911, so very short lived. Although a seldom seen badge I hope there are other forum members who have an example to share? Cheers, Roy.

I don't have an officers' bi-metal badge like the one photographed above.
I DO have a very nice brass other ranks' cap badge for this unit. It looks the same, just in all brass. |

Hi,
Thanks for sharing that. Any chance of an image? Is it maker marked? Also I noticed my example is marked with '35' on the inside of the horse, very small but it's there. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy, the officers' badges for the 19th AMR were sequence numbered.

Hi Bill,
You're a veritable gold mine of information my friend Excuse my ignorance Bill but can you elaborate on what precisely you mean by "sequence numbered" ? As mentioned my example has the number '35'. It is very small and difficult to photograph but have done so anyway and attached here for interest. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy, These badges were numbered 1, 2, 3, et cetera. I am not sure how many were in the run.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for that. Very interesting indeed. I assume from that, that each badge has a unique number (?). I'm sure that there are so few of these around or that have survived, any analysis or research is a none starter. Nevertheless Bill an great detail. I had first thought that it was a makers code or something but this makes just as much sense. Thanks again Bill. Just shows how interesting a badge can turn out. Thrilled I got this one! Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy, here's a link to mine. I'll have to pull it out to see if there's a number on the back.
I've always loved this badge. Cheers, Greg http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=56037 |

Hi Greg,
Stunning! a really splendid example Greg. And yes couldn't agree more - these are indeed really lovely badges. Yes dig it out when you have a chance, I'm interested to see what you find on the back. I almost missed this serial number and it was only when I was playing with the photographs that I noticed it. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for sharing that, very interesting! With mine at 35 and yours at 56 it makes one wonder just how many of these were made? Not too many I'm sure but it's good to have a couple of numbers to record. Cheers, Roy.

Continuing on the topic of these individually numbered (officers) badges.
A few days ago I happened across one of these badges for sale on a website - for the life of me I can recall where . However I did note that it was numbers and that it was 25. So those thus far recorded: #25 this new one I noticed. #37 my example. #56 Greg's example. Only a minor detail I know but interesting (to me) non the less and I feel worth recording here. Cheers, Roy.
